Shilpa Kolhatkar earned a DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry and a Certificate in Periodontics from Indiana University School of Dentistry. She completed a three year Post Doctoral Fellowship in Periodontics and Implantology, from Indiana University. She is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontology and Dental Hygiene, at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry. Dr. Kolhatkar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has published several articles in national high impact journals.
She has lectured extensively on various topics related to periodontics, implants, advanced surgical procedures, and interdisciplinary treatment modalities. She currently teaches periodontics to dental students and graduate students, and conducts a course aimed at advancing the diagnostic and clinical skills of AEGD residents. She is the director of the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) and is responsible for conducting a multidisciplinary OSCE for third year dental students. In her free time Dr. Kolhatkar enjoys spending time outdoors and reading.
