DNA Testing called a Periodontal Susceptibility Test (PST) provides a fingerprint of specific DNA associated with Periodontal Disease. It can help us determine if you are at risk of developing a severe form of gum disease. If you test positive, you may be more at risk of loosing teeth from gum disease, than someone with out this gene. The key is to identify if you are at risk. Early detection and intervention can make the difference between saving your teeth and loosing them. A simple cheek swab is taken from your mouth and then sent to a laboratory. Once the results are back, we will know your level of risk. Then he can create a personalized plan of treatment and supportive care to keep your periodontal disease under control.
